First I will start with a little about Ruby Raven Beadwork & how it all started. The name “Ruby Raven” is a combination of a raven, one of my favorite animals, my late grandmother’s name & represents my Sally, my other great- grandmother, & her birthstone, a ruby.

I originally am a graphic designer/web specialist but have always had a hobby where I am physically creating things. In 2022, I decided to become a self taught beadwork artist and began because I have always loved creating unique patterns and making jewelry. I challenged myself to start with some of the most difficult stitches in my opinion and then work my way backwards using Youtube as my only resource.

When I started beading in 2022, my goal was to create my future children’s regalia for when the time came for them to participate in tribal activities in our area. This has been a goal of mine for as long as I can remember. Though we are currently not parents but are hopeful with a little bit science and a lot of love to make that a reality soon.

How this business even came to be is all thanks to my husband. He encouraged me to learn the different types of skills needed, bought cute supplies so that I can bead more easily & convinced me that other people would want to purchase the jewelry I created. I have fallen in love with the entire process of beadwork and it has added such a layer of calm while we are going through this IVF journey.

One final thing that I do want to clarify, I am not a Native American artist even though I have grown up in the Poarch community, my husband is native, & I try to be respectful of all Native cultures and not just one. I understand that purchasing from a tribal artist is important to some. In our area alone, there are several amazing, talented artists that are tribal and sell beadwork jewelry. I urge you to check them out if that is your preference.
